firecrackers have been going off intermittently all throughout the city since the start of the lunar new year on january 22. during the day, the instrument of choice is generally the 鞭炮 (bianpao) which isn’t much visually but makes a ton of noise. at night, 烟花 (yanhua, meaning smoke flower) color the sky.
